| Drunk Driver Crashes - Injures Pregnant Teen and Passenger |
| Posted By Kellie Healey |
 |
On Monday, March 23, 2009, not too far from Fresno, California, a man with multiple DUI charges was running from the police in a high speed car chase, ran a red light, and crashed into another automobile. The negligent, drunk driver was Otis Lee Taylor Jr. and he attempted to flee the scene after the car accident happened. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Taylor crashed into a car with two passengers who were young women; one pregnant 17- year old, and the other a 21 year old. The CHP chased and arrested Taylor as he tried to leave the scene of the accident.
Both victims of the car accident suffered injuries. The pregnant woman had moderate injuries and the 21-year old woman had serious injuries and was probably rushed to a local hospital where she may have been treated for deep cuts and bruises, or lacerations caused by the seat belt. She may have also suffered critical brain injuries or brain trauma and been in danger of losing her ability to walk or properly function.
The DUI offender, who was driving reckless and caused the car accident, is now awaiting trial where he is being charged with several felony accounts. He will face felony D.U.I., a felony hit and run, and finally a charge for driving with a suspended license. This negligent driver could have killed both of the passengers in the other car, not to mention an unborn child. Thankfully, he did not kill anyone, but he seriously injured them. Someone needs to prevent him from ever having the chance to do something like this again.

| Fresno Police Department Hosts Memorial DUI Check Point |
| Posted By Fresno Accident Lawyer |
 |
On Friday night, March 27, 2009 the Fresno County Police Department (FPD) held a memorial DUI checkpoint in remembrance of an automobile accident in 2007 where a man who was struck by a car operated by a drunk driver. The checkpoint was stationed between Tulare and Chestnut in Fresno, CA. The D.U.I. check station was successful in preventing seven potential car accidents that would have been caused by 7 different drunk drivers that were on the road that night.
In the 2007, Jesse Velez Junior was killed after a drunk driver ran a stop sign and crashed into the van that Jesse was driving. He was a son, a husband and a father who is greatly missed by his family who will never forget this tragic event. They stand behind the county of Fresno, the Fresno Police Department, and the National Highways for Traffic Safety in a desire to stop people from driving drunk and endangering the lives of other drivers and passengers on the road.
The article did not report the kind of injuries that Jesse suffered as the result of the car accident, but it can be assumed that they were critical injuries, and that he was potentially pronounced dead at the scene. He may have suffered from extreme blood loss and bled to death, or he may have experienced severe brain trauma from the high impact auto accident and died not too long after that in the hospital.
Further details of his injuries are probably alarming and disheartening and the point is that drunk driving causes fatalities more times than not and it is usually the person who is hit by the drunk driver that is critically injured or that dies. Serious injuries change the course of someone's life forever, and carry with them life time stresses.
If you have been the victim of an auto accident where a drunk driver crashed into your motor vehicle and caused you serious injuries or you have acquired high medical bills from your injuries or your loved ones injuries you should contact a Fresno Automobile Accident Attorney today. You may have ground for a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver who caused the car accident. |

The California Highway Patrol reported that a motor vehicle and a train collided around 5:00 a.m. at a railroad crossing at Florin Road which is near 29th Street. The train conductor was conducting a freight train with no passengers. The driver of the motor vehicle sustained moderate to severe injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento hospital for his non life-threatening injuries. Upon the freigh train hitting the passenger automobile, the car caught on fire, where the car subsequently hit the railroad crossing arm which subsequently created a traffic backup.
Investigators at the scene of the train accident were attempting to determine whether any train safety equipment malfunctioned which could have resulted in this train / car accident. As yet, neither alcohol nor speeding appear to be factors in this non-fatal accident.
